Description

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT VOLUNTEERING TO BE A MANNA GIVER MEANS THAT YOU WILL PURCHASE OR PREPARE A MEAL AND DELIVER IT TO THE GUESTS IN THE SHELTER.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE REMINDER THAT WILL BE SENT VIA EMAIL FIVE DAYS BEFORE YOUR SERVING DATE TO ALERT YOU REGARDING THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS CURRENTLY IN THE SHELTER.

The Day Shelter of St. Vincent de Paul located at 1623 Convention Street in Baton Rouge is where the women, men and children that sleep in the Sweet Dreams and Sweet Dreams Expansion Shelters of St. Vincent de Paul at night go during the daytime hours.

Guests learn life skills like money management, how to prepare for a job interview, computer skills to seek employment online, healthy living tips, etc. They break for lunch; and, most often a hot meal is delivered form the Dining Room to the guests in the Day Shelter. Sometimes we are blessed to have a Manna Giver prepare a meal at home (or purchase a meal) and bring it to the guests in the Day Shelter. This is such a blessing to St. Vincent de Paul because the money saved by a Manna Giver providing a meal can be used for other important things.

We ask that the meal include a meat or protein, vegetable and a starch. Desserts and beverages are optional and we provide the paper goods. We encourage you to stay and serve the meal to the guests and have fellowship with them. If you choose to do this, please bring enough food for your volunteers to enjoy as well.
