Lower 9th Ward Homeownership Associationhttp://l9wha.org
12 years after Hurricane Katrina, only 37% of the population of the Lower 9th Ward has returned, though before the levees failed most of them were homeowners who did not even have mortgages. As a result of a recent policy victory, millions of dollars in federal money are now available to rebuild their homes, if we can prove they qualify. We need a well-functioning database of homeowners so that we can track our outreach to displaced residents who may need our help, monitor the cases of homeowners we are assisting, and record our successes as we bring these former residents of the Lower 9th Ward home. In addition, in order to hire staff to help these homeowners, we need to keep in regular touch with our donors and supporters around the country so they will continue to understand the importance of our work.
