Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS)

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is a non-profit all-volunteer humane organization serving the Baton Rouge community since 1979. Without volunteers, CAAWS animals would not have a second chance at life. We are committed to the well-being of animals in the Baton Rouge community by providing for and facilitating the adoption of homeless animals, teaching the community responsible companion animal ownership and the humane treatment of animals, and at all times promoting the practice of spay/neuter.
CAAWS is run solely by unpaid volunteers and is governed by a Board of Directors. We house and provide care for cats and dogs as well as provide foster homes for some. We also hold regular and special event adoptions. Our programs include but are not limited to humane education, Pet Touch Therapy, and Trap-Neuter-Release feral cats throughout the area. A well-known event we sponsor as our biggest fund-raiser is the annual Mystic Krewe of Mutts Mardi Gras Parade. Santa CAAWS is our other annual fund-raiser. Special events pop up throughout the year. We attend these to support the various businesses as they help promote our agency.
