Construction Crew Leader (Americorps)

lowernine.org is looking for an Americorps Construction Crew Leader: lowernine.org is now hiring an Americorps Construction Crew Leader for September 2018 - July 2019! Before applying, please carefully review the position description and information about serving with Notre Dame Mission Volunteers Americorps (NDMVA). Duties include: Lead groups of volunteers on worksites, instructing them in proper building methods and safety. Teach volunteers the skills they need to complete their building tasks. Complete work on worksites: tasks will include a wide variety of rebuilding and repair tasks ranging from roofing to flooring to drywall install/finishing to painting,etc. Develop Crew Leader training program for lowernine.org Support Project Manager in coordinating work schedules for each project and assure there is enough work for all incoming volunteers. Assist skilled carpenter and other skilled consultants with site assessments, as needed. Work with the Volunteer Coordinator and other crew leaders to assess how many volunteers can be handled on each site. Assure that each site has the appropriate materials and tools. Keep records of each project. Attend weekly project meetings with Crew Leaders, Executive Director, and other relevant parties Responsible for tool and materials maintenance. Secure job site at day’s end. Goals: Developing a Crew Leader Training program for lowernine.org Leading groups of up to 30 rebuild volunteers at a time on designated worksites. Teaching volunteers the construction skills needed to rebuild. Assuring building quality. Leading volunteers on 20 different project sites throughout the year. Qualifications: Positive attitude, flexible nature; Independence tempered by the ability to follow directions and abide by a workplan; Ability to interact professionally with staff and associates; Basic building/construction skills, preferred; Strong organizational skills evidencing attention to detail Ability to be a self-starter. Monday-Friday 7:45 am-4:00 pm. Occasional Saturday work days required (at most 1 per month). September 10-July 30. Benefits include $12,530 living stipend, student loan forbearance and $5,815 education award, childcare, and health insurance. Go Red for Women On Line Requests Project

We are currently seeking a few individuals that can do internet research for companies that have online donation requests, and subsequently submitting a request for items to fulfill our 2019 Go Red for Women Luncheon auctions. Three (3) people would be ideal. Volunteers do not need to report to an office daily. One time face to face meeting to be sure they have a complete understanding and materials for what we are seeking.

9/11 Day of Service

Join us on 9/29 as we commemorate 9/11 with a National Day of Service. The New Orleans Platoon will be supporting this nationwide effort of service by renovating houses that are STILL damaged from Katrina over a decade ago. We will be partnering with lowernine.org, a nonprofit organization that has rebuilt 83 homes and completed repair and renovation projects on 200+ homes for returning Lower Ninth Ward families. They are a great organization at the forefront of revitalizing the Lower Ninth Ward. We will have the honor of working on houses owned and/or occupied by both veterans and civilians that have come back to their community in an attempt to start over and create a thriving neighborhood there. We will help them in repairing the homes for these pre-Katrina residents of the Lower Ninth Ward. Food and drink will be provided. Come and serve with us!

Donation Pick Up and Drop Off Assistance

Catholic Charities is looking for individuals to help with picking up and dropping off furniture donations. Many of our clients are in need of furniture and volunteers assist us with storing and delivering furniture when needed. Volunteers should be able to stand on their feet for extended periods and lift 50 pounds.

Zoo Run Run

Run like a cheetah at the 13th annual Zoo Run Run 5K and ½ mile Kids Fun Run! All proceeds support the Baton Rouge Zoo and international cheetah conservation efforts. The goal of the entire event is to encourage healthy habits, as well as, awareness for conservation projects. We need volunteers to help us spread this message by assisting with various race-day stations. Opportunities include runner check-in, water stations, and course spotters.
